Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mediation and arbitration?
In a mediation, the mediator works with both parties to try and reach a settlement.  In an arbitration, the parties present their case to the arbitrator who makes a decision.
What is a half-day or full-day mediation/arbitration?
A half day includes anything under four hours. A full day is anything between four and eight hours. Additional hourly billing is done for time that exceeds eight hours in one day and for time outside the mediation or arbitration that may be necessary to address additional requests of the party or to produce an arbitration award.
Is mediation effective?
Mediation is usually very effective. Often, having an independent party look at the facts and provide an opinion to the parties can help resolve the dispute. Even if the dispute is not resolved completely at the mediation, it can be a valuable tool to narrow down the issues and lead to future settlement.
